We love spotlighting the bold, brilliant women that make up our Women in Revenue community and we’re excited to introduce you to two inspiring members who have each taken a huge leap in their careers: they started their own businesses.
Meet Katy Peters and Jess Zepeda. Both women launched their own companies in the last few years and are thriving in the world of entrepreneurship.
Their paths may be different, but they share a deep commitment to growth, community, and lifting up other women along the way.
Katy Peters: Betting on Herself & Building Across Borders
After a decade in the marketing industry, Katy Peters took a leap and started 8&a, a business consulting service advising ethical marketing strategies for companies around the world. She’s also the Director of Growth at MKTG WMN.
What motivated Katy to start her own business? A desire to challenge herself and “bet on myself,” she says. And it’s paid off. Katy now works with a wide range of industries and gets to flex her creative muscles across continents.
Katy first heard about Women in Revenue through a recommendation and quickly found herself immersed in the community. “WIR has informative resources and members who are always willing to help,” Katy says.
She’s especially appreciated the Slack channels that create safe spaces for women to connect and share.
Katy’s passion doesn’t stop at marketing. When she’s not working, she’s surfing, hiking, painting, traveling, and spending time near the ocean with her dog, Gimli. She’s also a fan of thought-provoking reads, revisiting the article We Don’t Sell Saddles Here each year for inspiration.
Jess Zepeda: Creating Her Own Path in Marketing Ops
With more than five years of marketing operations experience, Jess Zepeda founded her own consulting agency helping companies streamline and level up their operations.
Starting her own business has been a game-changer and has brought a new level of joy to her work.
“I love the flexibility,” she says. “It allows me to support different organizations and connect with great clients.”
Jess joined Women in Revenue to find connection and mentorship. She wanted to grow professionally while giving back to her community.
“I love meeting women I wouldn’t have connected with otherwise,” she says.
One recent moment stood out: a member posted about a webinar for women in ops, and Jess decided to attend. “It reminded me that I’m not alone,” she says. “This community is full of women who want to help one another.”
When she’s not running her business, Jess is dancing—literally. She’s currently learning Mexican Folklorico dancing and plans to start performing soon. She also enjoys reading, especially books that combine politics, magic, and martial arts, like the Jade City trilogy.
Why Their Stories Matter
Katy and Jess are just two examples of the incredible women in the Women in Revenue community. Both took big steps to build something on their own terms. That takes vision, courage, and a lot of hard work.
Their stories show us that there’s no one path to success. Whether you’re in ethical marketing, marketing ops, or any other field, your voice matters. And if you’re dreaming about starting something of your own, these two prove that it’s possible.
Women in Revenue is proud to be a space where women like Katy and Jess can find support, connection, and encouragement as they grow their careers. We’re here for your big goals and everyday wins, and we’ll keep cheering you on every step of the way.
